Who can enter?

Generation Green Awards will be given to three age groups:

  • 6-12
  • 13-17
  • 18-24

Projects will be accepted from individuals or teams in the above age groups

Teams of two or more people, large groups, or an entire classroom. Each team submission must identify one team leader who should submit the application.

Additional requirements

  • Your project must take place in a Vancouver neighbourhood. See a list of Vancouver neighbourhoods
  • The project can take place on your Vancouver street or local neighbourhood, and/or at a school, community centre, Neighbourhood House, library or other community facility. Just about anywhere in Vancouver.

You should only apply once

We encourage you to apply for one award only, and support the green project you are most passionate about. You may have lots of great ideas for green change, but we want to provide an equal opportunity and enough time for each young person to have their project heard.

What types of ideas qualify?

The focus of the Generation Green Awards is the environment. Your green project should help improve Vancouver’s environment. In your application, you will have to describe your project, where in Vancouver it will happen, and how your project will improve the neighbourhood’s environment.

We are open to all sorts of ideas. Your project could:

  • reduce garbage/waste
  • protect, conserve or improve water quality
  • improve air quality
  • reduce energy use/alternative power generation

What happens if I win?

If your project wins, you will be notified in mid-April. You will need to complete your project by early October, 2011 so that we can feature your work in Vancouver Foundation’s finale community event in the fall.

You must also:

  • Sign a Community Agreement which will outline how the award money is to be used to make your green idea real.
  • Work under the guidance of a local charitable organization. If you do not have a local community organization involved in your project from the start, we will partner you with one. They will be your guide and provide the award money as needed.
  • Allow Vancouver Foundation to share your project on the Generation Green website —include your first name, age and the area where your project is taking place.
  • Show us progress on your project by providing photographs or video, or allowing us to take photographs or video as you progress.
  • Show us the project once it is completed and describe to us how the money was used toward fulfilling your idea.
  • Be willing to showcase your project at our finale community event.
  • Be willing to be interviewed by media if requested.
